Pompons and Tulle skirts

Top: thrifted vintage, shoes: thrifted vintage, belt: thrifted vintage, shoes: thrifted vintage, purse: thrifted vintage, skirt: eBay, hat: Walmart.

Hello,

Here I am blogging about my summer looks, as always leaving everything till the end. Although, I kind of like this idea.

Okay, so have you ever rediscovered something from your closet you had forgotten about or thought you wouldn't wear again? I have! I had already placed this skirt for sale on my IG store and after two weeks nobody bought it. So I took another look at it and wondered how I can make it unique. That's when I remembered that I had some pompons and I sewed those suckers on. Pompons are not that difficult to sew in. Sadly, I didn't take pictures of the process. I wish I did!

To buy a similar skirt click here, and the pompons can be found at your local crafts shop. You can also try different sizes or colors. Have fun!

Handmade 1960's Inspired Dress

Well Hello,

Last week I got into a sewing mood and decided to take advantage of the fact that I'm not in school. Using New Look pattern 6125, I decided to make dress A on the pattern. This was my first time using a store bought pattern. I normally make my own when I sew. The pattern for this dress also included lining. I decided to skip it since I did not have the right fabric for lining and I figured it would be too hot for me to wear the dress in the summer.
Skipping the lining alone change the whole direction of where I was going with the dress. If you look at dress A and the one I made they do not look alike at all! I still like how it turned out. I don't know much about sewing but this was great practice. I feel that my hemlines are getting better.
I hope to continue practicing with patterns and encourage anyone to try it. A lot of these patterns are sewing beginner friendly so any one with little sewing skills can use. One good tip would be to practice on muslin first before actually transferring your patterns to your fabric. To some this might be gross but I buy bed sheets from the thrift to practice on before actually sewing with my fabric of choice.

DIY Fruit Brooch!

*I got this neat idea after I saw a blog post from Scathingly Brilliant on a diy eraser brooch.*

Inspiration

From Stella McCarthy to Prada the fruit print is set to be all over this summer. Although the fruit print was featured last Spring 2011, it seems that it will be returning for Summer 2012. You can find cute fruit printed clothing at ASOS, Macy's, &TOPSHOP!

Materials

-Set of erasers from Target
-Super Glue
-Pins

Instructions: Very simple just apply the super glue on the pin and then glue it onto the fruit eraser of your choice. Press both tightly together for about 30-40 seconds until the glue dries. Now you have a cute trendy brooch!

DIY Polka Dot Vintage Suitcase

First of all I was inspired to this by Oh so Lovely Vintage, a beautiful blog and one of my favorites! So this is what I used:

- Vintage suitcase ( I trifted mine for $5)
-I got almond spray paint to touch up the suitcase since it had minor scratches (you may not need this)
-2 or 3 sponge brushes
-A stencil for your polka dots (I used a tape roll)
-3 different paint colors for the dots

1. After I had spray painted the scratches on the suitcase, I let it dry over night.
2. The next day, I carefully started with one color and using my roll of tape as my stencil to make perfect circles.
3. Once my first set of circles dried, I went ahead and repeated step 2 with my next two colors.
4. Wait for the first side to dry and then work on the other.

I hope my steps are clear, or you may definitely just use the steps from the blog I found this at.
